Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 5, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how AirClear ("AirClear," "we," "us") handles information in the AirClear mobile app and on airclear.app (together, the "Service"). The short version: we collect the minimum we need to run a drone airspace app, our analytics are anonymous, we never sell your information, and we never store your location on our servers.
1. Information We Collect
Account information. When you create an account we collect your email address and how you signed in (email/password, Google, or Apple). If you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive only basic profile information (name, email) from that provider — nothing else from your Google or Apple account. Passwords are handled by our authentication provider and stored only in hashed form; we never see them.
Profile and preferences. Information you choose to enter in the app: your drone's brand, model, and weight; whether you fly recreationally or commercially; your experience level; and display preferences such as units and appearance. This exists to tailor the rules shown to you (for example, the 250 g registration threshold).
Location. With your permission, the app uses your device's location (while you are using the app) to center the map where you are and show the airspace around you. We do not store your location on our servers, and it is never attached to your account. To display a map and airspace data, the app necessarily sends the coordinates of the area you are viewing or tapping as queries to the data providers that serve that content — FAA public map services, the OpenFreeMap basemap, USGS satellite imagery, and other government and public GIS services (such as National Park Service, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Wilderness.net, and PAD-US protected-area layers hosted on Esri's ArcGIS Online, U.S. Census Bureau boundary services, and state GIS services). Those requests fetch data for a location; they do not include your identity or account.
Usage analytics and crash data. We use PostHog to understand how the app is used and to catch crashes. This data is anonymous: we never link analytics to your account or identity, and a filter in the app automatically strips coordinates and map geometry from every analytics event before it is sent. Collected data includes things like which screens are used, feature interactions, app version, device model, and crash diagnostics.
Data error reports. If you use the "report wrong data" feature, we collect the category and description you write, technical context (app version, rules version, which screen), and — because a map error cannot be investigated without knowing where it is — the coordinates of the point you tapped to report. Reports are anonymous by default; your account is attached only if you explicitly choose to include it.
Website waitlist. If you join the waitlist or updates list on airclear.app, we collect the email address you submit. The website is otherwise a static page and does not use analytics or advertising cookies.
We do not collect contacts, photos, background location, precise location history, advertising identifiers, or any data for tracking. We do not show ads.
2. How We Use Information
We use information to: provide the Service (accounts, sign-in, showing rules relevant to your drone and purpose); investigate and fix data errors you report; understand usage and fix crashes through anonymous analytics; send you service emails (such as email confirmation and password reset) and, if you joined the list, product updates; and comply with legal obligations.
3. How Information Is Shared
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for advertising. Information is shared only with the service providers that make the app work, each processing data on our behalf: Supabase (authentication and database), PostHog (anonymous analytics and crash reporting), Google and Apple (if you sign in with them), Loops (email delivery for service emails such as email confirmation and password reset, for the website waitlist, and for our internal data-report notifications), Cloudflare (website hosting and the serverless functions that process data error reports), and the map and airspace data providers described above (FAA services, OpenFreeMap, USGS, and other government and public GIS services), which receive map queries but no account information. We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, or security of AirClear or others.
4. Data Retention and Deletion
Account and profile data is kept while your account exists. You can delete your account at any time in the app: Account → Delete account. Deletion is immediate and permanent and removes your account and the data linked to it. If you chose to attach your account to a data error report, that report is detached from your account and retained in anonymous form. Anonymous analytics and anonymous data reports are not linked to your account and therefore are not identifiable to delete, but they cannot be traced back to you either. You can leave the email list at any time using the unsubscribe link in any email, or by contacting us.
5. Security
Data is encrypted in transit (TLS). Your sign-in session is stored on your device in the operating system's secure storage. Our database uses row-level security so that authenticated users can access only their own records. No system is perfectly secure, but we design conservatively — collecting less is our primary security measure.
6. Children
The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us personal information, contact us at hello@airclear.app and we will delete it.
7. Your Rights
You can view and update your profile information in the app, and delete your account and its data yourself as described above. Depending on your state (for example, under the California Consumer Privacy Act), you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal information and to be free from discrimination for exercising those rights. We honor such requests regardless of your state: email hello@airclear.app. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under California law, so there is nothing to opt out of.
8. Where Data Is Processed
The Service is intended for use in the United States, and data is processed and stored in the United States.
9. Changes to This Policy
If we change this policy, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, for material changes, take reasonable steps to notify you (such as an in-app notice). Continued use of the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated policy.
